I was gonna write about this issue last week when news floated about Sung Joon’s possible involvement in I Need Romance 로맨스가 필요해 season 3, but thought against it. I bid my time because I had a feeling a confirmation is not far behind. So was I right or what?
Sung Joon will play the part of a 27 year old genius composer opposite lead female Kim So Yeon, a 33 year old hardworking woman who does not believe in love anymore after her failed relationships (or so she said). But in her heart she longs for love. In real life we know of course that he is actually way younger than his role but with his long limbs he can easily pass as someone older.
The idea of older woman-younger man romance is nothing new. We have seen this over time and quite successfully at that! I remember watching a very funny Ko Hyun Jung falling for her best friend’s younger brother, Chun Jung Myung in Foxy Lady (2006). And who could forget the ratings hit My Queen (Taiwan 2009) which brought together Cheryl Yang and Ethan Ruan. Lately there has been a few dramas with the same theme namely (China) Drama Go Go Go with Ruby Lin and Jiro Wang, (Japan) Last Cinderella with Ryoko Shinohara and Haruma Miura just no name a few.
This drama follows I Need Romance 2011 and 2012. It will air sometime in January 2014 over tvN.
It looks like we have a lead for the upcoming MBC drama Miss Korea 미스코리아 in Lee Yeon Hee. According to SM Entertainment, LYH’s agency, they are positively reviewing the offer. The operative word being “positively” which in my book is an unofficial yes. All that remains to make this official is for them to sign the dotted line. But I’m certain that we have a lock. If I’m wrong then I won’t watch any dramas anymore. Okay, that would be too harsh for me. I’ll just skip this drama then. Ho-ho.
Lee Yoon Hee’s last project was this year’s Gu Family Book where she played Yoon Seo Hwa, the ill-fated mother of Lee Seung Gi (Kang Chi). In my opinion she is just an okay actress. The most notable among her work for me is 2008’s East of Eden which was hell-good of a drama and boasted a solid acting ensemble lead by Song Seung Heon. Veteran actor Lee Sung Min is also confirmed for the drama who might probably play the important role of the lead’s uncle. However, there is no word yet of possible leading men. This drama will be a reunion of sort of director Kwon Suk Jang and screenwriter Seo Suk Hyang who worked together in 2010’s Pasta (MBC). If their previous works were the benchmark then Miss Korea has a potential to be a hit but then again we can’t call it a chick until it hatched right?
Although the concept is not exactly new about a hometown girl and it’s townspeople trying to turn the ordinary girl into a beauty queen, it still has it’s particular appeal. Think Miss Congeniality (which I absolutely adore!) minus the FBI plus Korean humor.I think LYH has the face for it though the comedic chops remains to be seen.
Miss Korea will replace the currently airing Wednesday-Thursday drama Medical Top Team with a tentative broadcast date set for December 11th.
Stop the presses! Could this be? Is this real? My heart just jumped right out of my chest and my mouth went thud on the floor. They say that to see is to believe but sometimes pictures can lie. Right? The latest and probably the hottest dating rumor which is setting the net ablaze are Suzy and Sung Joon‘s “date-night” so to speak. Heck! I didn’t see this one coming. I know that they got close during filming of Gu Family Book but I didn’t realize that they actually hit it off that well!
Gu Family Book BTS
Suzy for me, has one of the most beautiful face in Korean entertainment and any guy would be so lucky to have her. Sung Joon is not your average pretty boy in my opinion. He’s got depth and character which I find appealing. Their agencies of course have denied this allegation in the hope to quash it before it takes flight. Oh well, too late for that now. From the looks of it, they look like they are good friends enjoying each other’s company. I kid! Okay shoot me! They look like a couple.
Nowadays, it’s getting harder and harder for celebrities to hide because even ordinary people have become papz. Just recently KARA’s Goo Hara and model actor Lee Soo Hyuk were snapped while out on a date and Infinite’s L and Na Eun made the gossip rounds as well. They never admit to any of this of course because they have their “images” to protect. But I see nothing wrong in this. They are but just people after all. And what’s wrong with dating? Oh all right, fans can be very possessive. I bet Suzy’s uncle fans are making threats to Sung Joon by now.
True or not, who’s to judge?
