50th Golden Horse Awards Red Carpet and Winners!

50th golden horse

Stars from China, Singapore, Hongkong, Malaysia and Taiwan gathered at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for the prestigious 50th Golden Horse Awards this weekend. It was a who’s who of the greater China region as A-listers attend the Chinese version of the Oscars. The event is even more sentimental because it brought together previous winners over the years who normally don’t come together in one occasion. It was specially nice to see Brigitte Lin and Maggie Cheung, two of the best actresses,in one event again. Singaporean film Ilo.Ilo won top honors as it bagged the Best Feature Film while The Grandmaster took home several major awards.

Fashion-wise, I like Maggie’s royal blue Elie Saab lace gown and Sonia Sui’s daring, elegant black gown. Shu Qi’s Valentino dress is sort of out of place and her hair is just plain wrong. The french braid can be both casual and dramatic if done the right way but hers was just messy. Yao yao’s mini dress is age appropriate but she should have gone for pumps instead of those hideous platforms. The men were almost identical in their black suits.

Here is the List of Winners

“I Can Hear Your Voice” Won Major Awards @2013 APAN Star Awards

Lee Bo Young Lee Jong Suk

The 2013 APAN Star Awards was held on November 16th at Jeongsimhwa Cultural Center in Daejeon City hence its known locally as Dejeon Drama Festival.Lee Hwi Jae and Soyeon of T-Ara were the masters of ceremonies. The very successful ghost story romantic drama, “I Can Hear Your Voice” took home four major awards including Best Couple for its leads Lee Bo Young and Lee Jong Suk.

This is another one of the many awarding ceremonies in South Korea. Don’t they just love to hand out awards? Most of the major cities have their own drama or movie festivals. It’s probably they way of promoting tourism so can’t really blame them besides most of the people love to see some celebrities in their own turf. Not to mention each of the major broadcast networks have their own drama awards to boot. When you look at the list though, it’s a bit confusing. It seems like they want to accommodate everyone so they give out awards in “hierarchy” as I’d like to call it. So don’t get confused to see so many best actors and actresses. So, what’s the difference between a best actor from an excellent actor to an acting award for an actor? Confusing eh?! Beats me!

Here are winners:

  • Daesang Grand Prize – Song Hye Gyo (That Winter the Wind Blows)
  • Best Lead Actor – Lee Jun Ki (Two Weeks)
  • Best Lead Actress – Lee Bo Young (I Can Hear Your Voice)

  • Best Rookie Actress – Lee Yoo Bi (Gu Family Book)and Kim Yoo Ri (The Master’s Sun, Cheongdamdong Alice)

  • Best Child Actress – Kim Hyang Gi (The Queen’s Classroom)

Hu Ge and Liu Shi shi Arrives Hand-in-Hand at 2013 BQ Favorite List Awards

The 2013 BQ Red List Awards ceremony was held in Shanghai last week. The annual award is given to chosen individuals in the entertainment industry by virtue of popularity, influence and show’s success.

But the focus of the evening were Hu Ge and Liu Shi shi who arrived at the event holding hands. If I didn’t know any better, I would have been jumping with glee over this, thinking that something is brewing between them. But I know that this is all for show, because of their upcoming series Da Mo Yao aka Ballad of the Dessert or Legend of Sun and Moon, which after what felt like eons of waiting, its official trailer was FINALLY released. Many fans are rejoicing for sure.

What I really want to know is when the airing dates will be. I am hoping to see this series early next year if the drama gods permit. It has already been cleared by SARFT so I don’t see the reason for more delays.

Here are the winners:

  • Most Influential Actors of the Year: Liu Shi shi and Chen Bo Lin
  • Favorite Actor of the Year: Nicky Wu and Zhang Yuqi
  • Favorite Drama Actor: Hu Ge
  • Most Popular Actor: Tang Yan
  • Breakthrough Artist of the Year: Liu Tao and Yan Kuan
  • Popular Idol of the year: Chen Xiao
  • Most Valuable Actor of the year: Massu Gallen
  • New Movie Actor of the year: Chen Dong and Guo Biting
  • Most Popular Artist of the year: Li Wei

Fan Bingbing, Kim Tae hee, Gao Yuan yuan et.al. Attend Cosmo’s 20th Anniversary Bash

Cosmopolitan magazine celebrates it’s 20th anniversary with a gala event held last night in downtown Shanghai. The event called Fashion 时尚COSMO20 with the theme — “Fun. Fearless. Female. Love and Tell” was field with glitz and glamour. Celebrities from the mainland, Hongkong, Taiwan and South Korea were chosen and were awarded as “Dream Icons”. Some of the Chinese celebrities who graced the event were Fan Bingbing, Gao Yuanyuan, Li Yuchun, Zhang Yuqi, Hans Zhang, Chen (Xue) Dong, Nini, Zhang Jingchu. Taiwanese hunks Peter Ho, Bolin Chen and Kenji Wu were also present. South Korean stars Kim Tae hee and Kim Soo hyun were the only recipients of the award from Korea and Hongkong actor-singer Aarif Lee was also given the award.

The ladies kept it simple and chic. But I guess Kim Tae hee didn’t get the memo and went for a white bridal gown. Maybe she wants to send a message to her beau Rain. The men were sharp and stylish. My man Peter Ho brought more style in that coat more than any other man.  But during the awarding ceremony he ditched the mustard turtle neck and Italian long coat for a more classic black suit.

Vic Zhou Wins Best Actor at 48th Taiwan Golden Bell Awards

The 48th Taiwan Golden Bell Awards was held in Taiwan at the Zhongshan Memorial Hall yesterday. The event was hosted by last year’s best actor winner, Bolin Chen. Taiwanese celebrities glammed up and walked the red carpet. Most notably newcomer Janet looked smashing in a black sexy peekaboo gown. Event host Bolin Chen was most probably the best looking guy of the night save perhaps for best actor winner Vic Zhou who looked equally delicious in a suit. Bolin handed him his first trophy personally. It was a sweet moment for Zai Zai after losing the best actor award to Mark Chao for Black and White. The two of them were the leads of the drama and were nominated for the same category back in 2010. But I think it is safe to say that everyone was expecting him to win. It may also be the reason why the once good friends became bitter friends. So I am so happy for Zai Zai’s win. He truly deserves this award.

It was also good to see some of my favorites on the red carpet like Nikki Hsieh (I would have loved to see Chris Wu as well but I guess that’s asking too much), Sonia Sui, Amber Kuo, Megan Lai, and Selina Jen (minus Ella and Hebe).

Here’s the list of the (drama related) winners:

  • Best Program: Falling PTS
  • Best Mini Series/TV Movie:Life Story PTV
  • Best Actor: Voc Zhou for Home
  • Best Actress: Miao Ke Li for Han Xiao Shi tang/Flavor of Life
  • Best Supporting Actor: Lee Daniel for Home
  • Best Supporting Actress: Esther Liu for Falling
  • Best Director: Wang Ming Tai for Falling
  • Best Screenplay: Wen Yu Fang for Falling

18th Busan International Film Festival Red Carpet Arrivals

The 18th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) kicked off today  at the port city of South Korea. Stars from all over Asia gathered for the event which will last from October 3-12 and will screen a total of 301 films from all over the world.

The Bhutanese film “Vara: A Blessing” was selected among 300 films to be this year’s curtain raiser. Hongkong superstar Aaron Kwok serves as the master of the opening ceremony.

If there ever was a theme, it would be white. A handful of stars and starlets alike donned a variation of white gowns and many opted for sexy, sheer, lace and chiffon. Most of the stars’ choices are considered a safe choice. My personal favorite would have to be Han Hyo Joo‘s pink lace gown. She looked classy and radiant in it. Among the men the best dressed is hands down — T.O.P or Choi Seung Hyun. He is known for his avant garde fashion sense and today he could have given Mr. Bond a run for his money.
